What Have We Here ?

Today, most utilize this piece as an incredibly historic low to the ground table, but we were astonished to learn that this work was used for everything ranging from a bed, to a table, to even ceremonial events for the Senufo people of the Ivory Coast. Furniture was extremely rare, and most often reserved for the elders of the tribe, so a piece this big would have served every function imaginable – both quotidian and sacred. The acacia wood (carved from a single tree trunk, no less!) has been smoothed out by its constant use.

How to Use It ?

This distinguished work is fit for many functions. Use it as a low to the ground coffee or even dining table, as a daybed or bench, or place it at the foot of your bed to store quilts and coverlets. Make it the epicenter of conversation in your living room like it was the mainstay of furniture for the Senufo people.

Why It Matters ?

According to legend, any piece of the sacred acacia tree would sprout if planted in the ground. In addition, historical and religious texts reveal that acacia was purportedly used to create Noah’s Ark, due to its solid character and termite and insect-repellent qualities. Given this work’s long history serving numerous functions for a family and people, clearly the acacia wood species lives up to its storied reputation.
