What Have We Here ?

This functional shelf lived its first life in a post-war American shoe factory during the 1950s. Almost all the shoe makers and factories from this time are no longer in existence, but we were so thrilled to learn that the company that made the wheels on this work is still alive and well today. Shoe racks put Hamilton Casters on the map, and the company, based out of Hamilton, Ohio, has been in business since 1907.

How to Use It ?

This rack might remind you of an old-school baker’s rack, and it will work just as well. Bring this simple yet utilitarian shelving unit into your kitchen, bedroom, or even living room to store everything from cookware, to books, to linens, or even 30 pairs of shoes like it was originally intended.

Why It Matters ?

Over the course of its long life, from what we’ve discovered, this sturdy rack likely never left the Northeastern United States. Sustainability isn’t just about the materials used in constructing a work of furniture, it also involves keeping products local to avoid both unnecessary emissions and potential damage incurred during transportation.
